Rahilia Hasanova is a classically trained composer, pianist, and organist. Her compositions cover a wide range of music genres and instrumentation, from chamber music to symphonic compositions to as opera and ballet. Her music has been performed at many international festivals, symposia, and concerts, including those in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and others. Hasanova has been honored with solo portrait concerts in Azerbaijan, Poland, England, Germany, and the USA.
Rahilia Hasanova has a unique composition approach that fuses elements of Eastern traditional mugam and ashug music and Western contemporary composition techniques such as aleatory, ethno-minimalism, and multi-polyphony. Her compositions also involve constructions and textures based on the improvisatory nature of Eastern music culture and arts.
Being experienced researcher, Hasanova wrote many scientific articles that were dedicated to music acoustics and issues in music theory. She is an author of four published books as well as the first solfeggio textbook in Azerbaijan. She also released several CDs, including one titled “Dervish”, which was recorded in Germany in 2005.
Hasanova is a member of the Baltimore Composers Forum, the American Composers Forum, Donne in Musica (Italy), and the Composers Union of Azerbaijan.
